Bathroom renovations

Bathrooms built to last, not just to look finished.

A bathroom is a small room where waterproofing, ventilation, and tile work have to be right the first time. The detail behind the wall matters as much as the fixtures in front of it.

Renovated bathroom with walnut vanity, stone tile and a glass shower

Scope of work

  • Demolition, including tile, fixtures, and affected substrate
  • Framing adjustments and niche or bench construction
  • Plumbing and electrical rough-in by licensed trades
  • Waterproofing membranes and shower assemblies
  • Tile, stone, vanity, glass, and fixture installation
  • Ventilation, lighting, painting, and finishing details

Planning considerations

  • Whether the layout stays or the fixtures move, and what plumbing that requires
  • Ventilation and moisture control appropriate to the room
  • Accessibility considerations such as curbless showers or grab-bar blocking
  • Tile selection and setting patterns, which affect labour and layout
  • Fixture and glass lead times, including custom shower glass measured on site
  • Which bathroom the household uses while this one is out of service

Waterproofing is the whole job

Membranes, slopes, and transitions are installed and inspected before tile goes on. This is the part you never see and the part that determines whether the room lasts.

Hidden conditions

Older bathrooms sometimes reveal water damage or dated plumbing once opened. We review findings with you and price any additional work before proceeding.

How Balwind coordinates the work.

Demolition, rough-in, inspection, waterproofing, tile, and finishing are scheduled in a fixed order with the right trade on site at each stage, so the room is not held open waiting for a return visit.

We can walk you through examples of work at a similar scope, and put you in touch with references, during your initial conversation. You can also see the standard we build to in our design concepts.

Common questions.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most take several weeks, depending on scope, inspections, and the lead time for glass and fixtures. We confirm a schedule for your project.

Can you move the toilet or shower?

Often, though it depends on the drainage, the floor structure, and the space below. We assess feasibility before the design is finalised.

Do you handle custom shower glass?

Yes. Glass is measured after tiling is complete, which is why it usually lands near the end of the schedule.
